Outpatient programs or traditional outpatient programs are ideal for individuals who are in need of treatment for more minor issues. This is often provided for individuals who have completed an inpatient substance abuse programs and have just started using illicit substances. This is often provided along with family counseling so that the family knows how to assist their loved ones in managing their issues.
Intensive Outpatient Programs or IOPs are kinds of outpatient programs that are provided instead of having a person stay in a facility. While their therapist may determine that they do not need to receive 24-hour care in a facility, their program outlines more intensive activities and sessions to address their issues. Apart from substance abuse, this program is also applicable to issues like eating disorders, and bipolar disorders, among others.
IOPs may include the following:
- Group counseling
- Individual counseling
- Monitoring of alcohol and drug use
- Medical treatment
- Vocational training
